Nanotechnology

 Nanotechnology

What is the meaning of NANO?

'Nano' is a word in the Greek language. Nano means dwarf or very small. At this scale we have the ability to move atoms and see them.

How small is NANO?

Nano is very small we cannot observe it through our naked eye. It is one billionth of
 a meter.

1 meter         =   one billion nanometers
  • Two meters tall tree means it is 2 billion nanometers.
1 millimeter =     one million nanometers
  • A pin head across is 1 millimeter hence it is 1million nanometers
   1micrometer =    1000 nanometers
  • A red blood cell across means 10 micrometers hence it is 10000 nanometers
   1 centimeter   =    10 million nanometers
  • One centimeter long ant is 10 million nanometers

 Did you know?

  • The thickness of hair is about 80000nm
  • The thickness of paper is about 100000nm

What is nanotechnology?

  • Nanotechnology is the process of making new things in the incredibly small scale of 1-100nm.
               HISTORY OF NANOTECHNOLOGY

First person to say about this nanotechnology was an American physicist Richard Feynman on 1959 at his after the dinner speech. He said that "There's plenty of room at the bottom"
In 1974 a Japanese engineering professor Norio Taniguchi named this field as 'NANOTECHNOLOGY'.  In 1980 nanotech-evangelist Dr K. Eric Drexler's book which is 'Engines of Creation-The Coming Era of Nanotechnology' .

The greatest step for the Nanotechnology was the invention of the ELECTRONE MICROSCOPE .
